7 Ways to Wear Hi Vis This Spring

At the National Safety Apparel headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, we can go through what feels like all four seasons within one week. We know first-hand that the weather can change at the drop of a dime and it’s important to be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws at you this spring while ensuring you’re visible, comfortable, and compliant. With so many high-visibility options, we know that’s easier said than done. Here are seven different ways to wear flame-resistant hi-vis clothing this spring – for any condition you may encounter.

1.)  HYDROlite FR™ Rainwear

This gear tops the list and you’ll soon see why.

When you’re dealing with stormy, rainy conditions, it’s important to stay dry and comfortable when on the job. HYDROlite FR™ gear is constructed with the cutting edge, GORE® PYRAD® fabric technology that is the best way to ensure your workers stay both, dry and comfortable.

It’s so much more than just FR rainwear:

  • Waterproof & breathable performance beyond ASTM F1891, ASTM F2733, and ANSI 107 requirements
  • Lightweight & fast-drying
  • Wind resistant
  • Storm shower tested & field-proven to keep workers dry
  • Flame resistant & arc-resistant
  • Breathable segmented 3M™ Scotchlite™ reflective trim provides increased air flow through the garment

The design of these products allows wearers to perform tasks as if not wearing gear. We had real guys test this gear out on the job – 92% of them said they would pay for this gear out of their own pocket.

2.) Hybrid FR™ Hi-Vis Work Wear

Be seen in a whole new way with Hybrid FR™ workwear.

  • This line combines fluorescent and dark fabric, bringing a clean, two-tone style to ANSI garments.
  • Darker fabric helps hide the dirt and grime gathered during a hard day’s work
  • Flame resistant & arc-resistant
  • Available in vests, jackets, pants, shirts, and more
  • Breathable – segmented 3M™ Scotchlite™ FR reflective trim provides increased airflow through the garment

3.) FR & Work Wear Hi-Vis Vests

For dryer spring days, we have a vast selection of hi-visibility vests to choose from – for every application.

Available in styles with the following options:

  • Fluorescent Yellow or Orange, mesh or solid fabrics.
  • Zip front closures, FR hook & loop closures (for applications requiring breakaway styles)
  • FR Mesh Safety Vests, FR Road Vests, FR Outerwear Vests
  • Solid trim, breathable segmented trim
  • FR/AR options, as well as general workwear vests
  • Additional features include mic-clips, cell phone pockets, tablet pockets, chest pockets, pencil pockets, and lower pockets

4.) FR Hi-Vis T-Shirts & Work Shirts

Did you know that a vest without sleeves cannot meet ANSI/ISEA 107-2015 Class 3 on its own? In order to be Class 3, a vest, shirt, or jacket MUST have reflective material on the sleeves. The main reason for this is to help drivers distinguish the difference between humans versus cones, delineators, barrels, and other devices marking the roadway.

Turn a Class 2 Vest into a Class 3 by including a T-Shirt underneath your vest, or wear your ANSI 107 class 3 t-shirt alone.

Benefits of FR Hi-Vis T-shirts & Button-Down Work Shirts

  • ANSI/ISEA 107-2015 Class 3
  • Available in long sleeve or short sleeve, with varying fabric weight options - perfect for varying spring temperatures
  • Flame resistant & arc-resistant
  • Breathable – segmented 3M™ Scotchlite™ FR reflective trim provides increased airflow through the garment

Quick tip: Combine FR Leg Gaiters with an ANSI 107 Class 2 Vest and you have created an ANSI 107 Class 3 ensemble.

5.)  FR Base Layer Tees

Temperatures can vary not only from season to season but from hour to hour. If you need to stay high-vis compliant all day, consider a layering system.

FR Control 2.0™ performance FR/AR base layer garments offer both proactive & reactive properties.

  • Fabric works to actively regulate body temperature
  • Test reports show perspiration was reduced by as much as 34%
  • Moisture-wicking technology wicks the moisture away from your skin by absorbing and ultimately evaporating
  • Breathable – segmented 3M™ Scotchlite™ FR reflective trim provides increased airflow through the garment
  • Antimicrobial fabric to resist odors
  • Short-sleeve & long-sleeve ANSI/ISEA 107-2015 Class 2 & Class 3 options

6.) FR Hi-Vis Sweatshirts

For chillier days of spring, FR Sweatshirts are a worker’s best friend.

  • Available in Zip Front & Pullover styles

  • Hybrid FR™ deluxe options include 2 front hand warmer pockets

  • Breathable – segmented 3M™ Scotchlite™ FR reflective trim provides increased air flow through the garment

7.) FR Pants, Bib Overalls, Coveralls

And last but not least, let’s talk Class E. You can never be too safe, and when it comes to Hi-Vis, you can never bring “too much” attention – that’s the point, isn’t it?

For greater conspicuity within hazardous work environments consider creating an ensemble by pairing an ANSI 107 Class 2 or 3 garment with the added protection of FR Class E legwear, pants, bib overalls, or coveralls.

Take that ensemble one step further, and really stand out from the crowd by customizing your garments. You can add your logo, safety slogan, name or title to the front or back of most jackets, shirts & vests.
